The Bad Monkey is an awesome TS substitute that will get you great tone, especially for the $25 he's selling it for The Digitech Screamin' Blues is much better than the Bad Monkey in my opinion. There is more gain available yet you can back it off to almost clean boost territory. It also has a nice shimmer to it that's almost like an aural exciter.

2011-06-12 · The Digitech Bad Monkey is a great alternative to a Tube Screamer. Actually, more than an alternative, I think it can complement a Tube Screamer really well. I don’t think it sounds quite as smooth as my Analogman TS9 but the 2-Band EQ and the Mixer output makes it really versatile. It is also excellent used as a booster.

Joined: Apr 29 My stock Bad Monkey already sounds better than a Tube Screamer. I've had both at the same time and the Tube Screamer went bye bye. I've had my monkey for about 3 years now and always sounds good. Running it with a Tweaker 15 head, SED Winged C 6L6's into a Marshall 1965A 4X10 and love it. I've heard that Tube Screamer and Bad Monkey are 'best', but I'm not sure of best for what?

A Digitech Bad Monkey pedal is a good possibility. Very inexpensive and quite good. It's worth looking at As for your original question, Tube Screamers sound completely different than a DS-1.

I got that Monkey and used the hell out of it! I ended up building a rig around it and started my first band, the Ronald Raygun, which is still going today. By the time we recorded our first (disastrous) full-length, I was rocking a pretty cool rig comprised of a wah, the Bad Monkey, my dad’s old digital delay, a Big Muff copy, and a whacky envelope filter that I never quite got a handle on. 2011-03-23 · I have had the Bad Monkey and it is a good pedal for sure but it is not on the same level tone wise as the BBE. The BBE is really a well kept secret for a LOT of people in fact I know a bunch of people on this board that have HUGE pedal collections and love the Green Screamer and keep it on their board. The Bad Monkey Tube Overdrive gives your guitar amp a boost just when you need it. This rugged pedal produces the smooth natural character of an overdriven tube amp while maintaining your guitar's distinct tone.

I can also recommend the Bad Monkey for this, I've used it myself to do the same. I think it actually works a bit better than a normal Tube Screamer in that role because it has a bit more of an edge to the sound.

Some notes not mentioned in the video : 1) The Bad Monkey has a very cool feature … a Mixer and an Amp Output (useful if you wanted to run the pedal direct into a mixer).
